In the biological sense, the term adult refers to a human or animal that is one that has completely grown. The human world of adult refers to the social and legal aspects. In contrast to "minor" or "non-adult", a legal-age adult refers to a person that has reached the age of majority. They are thought to be responsible, independent and capable. It is also possible to view them as a "major". There is a general belief that the age at which a person becomes a legal adult is 18. But, it can vary depending on legal rights and the country of origin and also on the psychological state.

Adulthood is the time that the person is at maturation in both physical and mental development. Adulthood is commonly believed to start around age 20 or 21. Then, after middle age (starting about 40 years old) is the time to reach old age (around age 60). Young adulthood starts between age of 18 to 30. Middle adulthood occurs from the mid-30s through to 60s. Later adulthood is when we reach the middle of 60s. At the beginning stages of adulthood (between 20-40) then our bodies have reached their full maturity although the weight and height of our bodies might increase a bit. During young adulthood we reach the highest level of physical capabilities.
