An animal adult, whether human or non-human, is one that has grown to the fullest extent. In the human context an adult's term has implications that are based on the legal and social world. Contrary to the term "minor" as well as "non-adult" an legal adult is an individual who is a an age at which they are majority. They are considered responsible, independent and capable. The word "major" is a term applied to them. The age when a child can legally become an adult is 18; however, the definition of"legal maturity" can be different depending on the country or legal system in place, and also their psychological state.

The period of human development that is when mental and physical maturity has been achieved. Adulthood usually begins when a person reaches an age that is 21. Middle age, commencing around 40 years old then follows by old age at about 60 years old. The three phases of adulthood include early adulthood (from the mid 30s until late 60s), middle adulthood from the mid-30s through late-60s, and finally adulthood, (mid-60s until end of life). At the beginning stages of adulthood (between 20 and 40) then our bodies have reached full maturation, even though our height and weight could increase slightly. As we enter the first years of our adulthood, we're physically at our peak. Strength of muscles, reaction time, sensory ability, and cardiac function all reach their highest levels.
